Modern-day sheer face sunscreen is a product that’s designed to offer fantastic protection against the sun, with its mineral-based formula providing a barrier that UV rays simply can’t get through. That said, if you want to enjoy this benefit, there are certain things you need to know – otherwise, you may not apply them correctly.
While some of the entries we’ll be covering may seem obvious to you, there are a surprising number of people who are working on incorrect information.
Fact #1 – Don’t Believe Sheer Face Sunscreen That Says It’s Waterproof
Our first tip relates to those products you find on the market that make outlandish claims about being completely waterproof. Newsflash – no sunscreen on the market can say that it’s waterproof, as that particular product has yet to be invented.
At best, what you’ll get is water-resistant sunscreen. However, it’s still not totally water-resistant either, as they too need to be re-applied every 40-80 minutes when in the pool, the sea or if you’ve been sweating profusely.
Fact #2 – You Shouldn’t Just Rely On Sunscreen
Another mistake people often make is thinking that sheer face sunscreen is all you’ll need to protect yourself all day in direct sunlight. What you have to remember is that even SPF 50 lets 1% of UV rays through, so some will get through to your skin.
That’s why you should complement your sunscreen with clothing, sun hats and sunglasses. You should also look to be in the shade between 10 am-2 pm, as it’s when the sun is at its highest point in the sky i.e. when it’s at its most intense and damaging to your skin.
Fact #3 – Sunscreen Doesn’t Last Forever!
We know that there are people out there who use the same sunscreen year after year without considering that it actually has an expiration date. The truth is that it only has a shelf life of around 3 years, after which it will start to degrade. When talking about mineral sunscreen, it may separate out over time, meaning that it stops protecting you as well as it once could.
Every three years or so, you should be replacing the product, as you can’t rely on it any more. It likely won’t cause you any problems other than a lack of UV protection.
Sheer Face Sunscreen Will Protect You As Described
What you should draw from this article – other than the three pieces of advice – is that sunscreen is one of the best ways to safeguard against sun damage. However, that only applies when the manufacturer’s directions are followed as to how it should be applied.
The three mistakes we’ve looked at here are not the only ones in existence either. That’s why it’s a great idea to do your own research and listen to the issues other people have when spending long periods of time outdoors.
If you blindly use sunscreen without paying attention, you leave yourself and your family open to the misery of sunburn and an increased risk of skin cancer.
So, be sure to check the expiry date, reapply after you’ve gotten wet (be it through water or sweat) and make sure you wear hats, clothes and sunglasses to complement it.
The sun is very unforgiving, so it’s so important to be sun safe.
