Building a Hydrating Skin Routine

Dryness is a common complaint when it comes to skincare. Some people avoid certain practices because they worry that they will dry out their skin even more. However, many of these products and techniques can help maintain beautiful skin that’s hydrated and healthy looking. If you want to keep your skin moisturized and well cared for, follow these steps and make them a regular personal care habit.

Cleanse Your Skin

A clean complexion is a happy one, and while overwashing can certainly dry out your face, proper cleansing is the first step in maintaining healthy hydration. Follow these steps to remove dirt, debris, and excess oil for fresh clean skin that’s visibly balanced  and not dehydrated.

1. Start With a Nourishing Cleanser

Some face washes are harsh, and there is often much trial and error involved when it comes to finding the right option for you. Those with oily skin may need a stronger option. However, those with normal to dry skin can benefit from choosing moisturizing cleansers. These products remove dirt without stripping the skin of its natural oils. When you choose a gentler option, you can clean your skin more frequently.

2. Use a Skin Toner

A gentle skin toner can work wonders for your skin, supporting a smooth and hydrated look and feel. Apply toners after you wash your face, at least once a day, to remove deep-down buildup and reveal your radiant skin. Keep in mind that not all toners serve the same purpose. Exfoliation can be harsh and drying when done too often or without the right technique. Also, limit your overall number to five to ensure you aren’t wasting your time and money; applying too many products in one session means the ingredients just sit on the surface, without having any visible benefit.

2. Moisturize Daily

For heavier products, such as oils and creams, it’s often better to apply them at night when the skin needs more hydration. When worn during the day, heavy moisturizers can cause skin discomfort and sweating.

3. Apply Sun Protection

The rays of the sun dehydrate skin at a rapid pace, so make sure you wear sunscreen on a daily basis. Many skincare and makeup products now include SPF, so you can eliminate an extra step in your routine. If you prefer to keep things separate, apply sunscreen as the final step in your skincare regime.

Dry skin can be unsightly and uncomfortable, but that doesn’t mean you should avoid certain skincare practices. When you choose the right products for your skin type and utilize the right techniques, you can enjoy great results. These simple steps can help you maintain healthy hydration levels for beautiful, visibly radiant skin.
