Read Time:4 Minute, 14 Second

Anxiety is an often unspoken sickness that many people deal with.  It can be at varying levels too which is why so many people don’t openly talk about their anxiety.  It can be from the severe that lands people in hospital beds to the gentler forms of anxiety that leave you tired, there’s a wide spectrum.

It is hard to deal with rapid heart rates all the time, a constantly racing mind, and a fear that you feel is uncontrollable.  To help you through those hard times, take a quick read to see something that you might be able to use.

1. Make Sure You’ve Taken any Prescribed Medications

If you feel attacked by this first one, then there’s a reason.  For many people it can be extremely difficult to begin or continue taking medications.  There are many ways that you can help yourself with this:

  1. Alarms
  2. Calendar Notifications
  3. Pill Boxes
  4. Keeping Your Meds at Eye Level
  5. Have an Accountability Partner

2. Deep Breathing

There are several different ways that people count from breathing in for four seconds and out for four seconds to an eight count in and three count out.  Honestly, any variation where you control your breathing and not hyperventilate is going to help you slow down when anxiety takes hold.

Deep breathing is probably one of the most used kinds of anxiety control and for good reason.  Consciously taking control of your breathing has been shown to slow down anxious responses and stress responses.

3. Take a Shower or Bath

This one doesn’t work for everyone, but the warmth of a hot shower can help provide comfort when anxiety is going into overdrive.  The time spent taking care of yourself will also help alleviate depression which is often Associated with anxiety.

4. Distract Yourself

one of the ways to help yourself is actually to avoid the anxiety for the moment so that way you can process it at a later time. One of the best ways to distract yourself is going outside and getting some vitamin D. You can also use your phone, a book, or walk a dog.

5. Utilize Anxiety Specific Medical Marijuana

There are several types of marijuana that are becoming more and more accessible.  While not all strains are going to be helpful for anxiety there are those that are bred to assist with anxiety.  More often than not those strains are going to be of an indica type.  Be careful!  Going overboard can sometimes do the reverse and increase your anxiety.  To stay safe, keep a few bottles of HIBEGONE with your stash.

6. Attack the Origin

When and where possible try to attack the origin of the problem.  This means that if there is an external controllable source  you fix the source.   Sometimes this can mean diving back into past traumas to assist yourself emotionally. However, that’s not always the case. More often than not, anxiety can be helped by removing yourself from a stressful situation.

7. Talk to Someone in Your Support Chain

It is a great idea to have a support chain so that you have people to talk to when your anxiety may be taking control. At times it can be very hard to think straight when a rational or an irrational fear won’t go away.   It’s always wise to reach out to the support team that you have to  ensure your safety and well being.

8. Utilize Comfort Items

Not everyone is going to be comfortable with this, no pun intended. Sometimes having soft items nearby makes it easier to calm down due to the texture. This can be in the form of a blanket, stuffed animal, or wearing your softest clothes.

9. Exercise Whenever You Can

Fitting in a workout everyday can be impossible, I get it! It all depends upon the weather outside, how you’re feeling, and a multitude of other factors.  I’m not saying the exercise has to be ritualistic, but just make sure that you’re doing some sort of exercise activity each day even if it is cleaning the house or walking the dog it counts.

10. Express Yourself Through Art

Another way to help with anxiety is to express yourself through a medium of your choice. that Medium can be anywhere from sewing with cloth, crocheting with yarn, painting or learning a hobby. The only thing that you have to be careful of is constantly learning a new hobby, because you’ll soon run out of space!

Conclusion

Anxiety is its own special frustration for those that have to deal with it. As you work through anxiety on a daily basis, remember these different tips and try some of them  to see if they help.

Sometimes it may take more than one tip in order to handle your anxiety at that moment. don’t be afraid of that! Use as many tools as you need to feel better.
